Beware of bad across the street

by PoneGee

I booked this hotel for my husband’s 40th birthday. We had 90 minute massages at the spa which were great! We’re hoping for a relaxing night of sleep since our 5 & 3 year old were not with us! That did not happen. Our room was on the Main Street side. Across the street is The Hub Bar. I woke up around midnight to screaming, yelling, laughing, loud music etc. Looked out the window and there were people everywhere at the bar. At least 20-30 people waiting to get inside, outside smoking, bar hoping to the bar down the street! It was EXTREMELY loud. We could hear drunk conversations (the windows are paper thin). So much for a nice relaxing night of sleep. We called the front desk, they told us the bars close at 1:00. Ummmm, no they close at 2:00. Then they proceeded to tell us it gets louder when the bar closes because everyone is out in the street! Let’s just say I was up from midnight until about 2:30 listening to all the drunks across the street. Had to put pillows up in the windows to try and muffle the noise. Didn’t really work! Complained to the supervisor the morning and she basically told us Main Street side is loud from the bar, back side is loud from the trains and there’s nothing she could do. Not even an I’m really sorry, a free breakfast for the inconvenience or anything. My guess is this is a common complaint. I was so upset that I spent almost $200 to listen to drunks during the wee hours of the morning. It’s quieter at my house with young children and two dogs. I’ll never stay at this hotel again and will definitely warn everyone I know about it! Too bad they are right across from this bar because it would be a cool hotel if they weren’t!

The place to stay!

Great hotel! Historic and charming, beautiful rooms, up to date. Our room was quiet. The staff was overly accommodating and communication was superb. We visited the spa and that was top notch. Pool and hot tub were well- cared for.
