Great hotel

by bangsibear

We had a wonderful experience at Hotel on North. We were part of a group of about 25 that booked rooms, one dinner, and a meeting. If I were just rating the hotel, it would be a five. The hotel is in an old department store and every room is different, with unique layout and furnishings. Many have a seating area with its own TV. The toiletries are nice and the towels ample and fairly thick. The bedding is very very nice. There is off street parking and while the lot was often close to full, I think it is probably ample most days. Only complaints are that there was no decaf coffee at the coffee maker (and no note about how to get some), there was no clock in the room, and the puny hairdryer was almost useless.

The staff was uniformly helpful and friendly. We felt very welcomed and taken care of.

Breakfast is reasonably priced and has lots of good options, including a great cold buffet continental breakfast.

Then why the four stars? The set ups for both of our events had to be redone (in fact, the staff seemed completely unaware of our Sunday morning meeting needs.) There was complete miscommunication about whether our rate included breakfast. And the band in the bar Saturday night was so loud that it made conversation in the private dining room almost impossible (Sunday morning’s group was much better.) Bottom line - if you are not trying to organize a group with its own events, the hotel itself is great. But I would not count on group sales to get things right.

What a gem!

We recently spent three nights at the Hotel on North, and having no knowledge of the area, were thrilled to find such a chic and welcoming hotel. The public areas were stylish and gave a nod to the origins of the building, and the room was both very comfortable, well equipped and a pleasant change from the bedrooms of large hotel chains. The bar and restaurant downstairs was modern and the food was good, if a little pricy. All the staff we encountered were friendly, helpful and willing to suggest places to both visit and to dine. We were lucky enough to have a local coffee shop recommended (Dottie's), and we breakfasted there every day. The car park for the hotel is right behind the building, and is gated and secure, with plenty of space. In all, this was a fantastic stay - lots of interesting places in the area, and Hotel on North made an excellent base to explore.
