Reviews

(Quite) Cheap & Nasty Hotel

by PeruNorth

I booked this hotel for 2 nights on booking.com, mainly for its location near the Plaza de Armas, rather than any good reviews I had read about it. Therefore my expectations were low ... and they weren't disappointed!

Firstly, on arrival, it was clear that the Rack Rate advertised for the room was some 50% less than it was advertised on booking.com, which was immediately irksome.

The price did not include breakfast.

The twin room we had was small, but just about sufficient for us and our luggage. We never managed to get any hot water, and the WiFi didn't work ... despite the router being right outside our room, and all the cables running through our bathroom window!

Probably the biggest criticism is the noise. The windows in the corridor, which overlooked a main street were left open all night, so the street noise was audible. This included a nightwatchman who insisted on blowing his whistle every minute or so throughout the night!

Opening and closing bedroom doors could also be heard throughout the hotel, as could the front door bell, which clients had to ring to be let in after 11pm or so.

The reception staff were quite friendly and helpful, but had the thankless task of being the visible face of this dingy, uninviting place.

Dirty, in disrepair and unfriendly staff at check in

We arrived to very inhospitable staff. Our room had black mold all over the bathroom ceiling and the bedding looked dirty (we actually slept in our own sheets). The wifi did not work. We left after one night and wish we had left sooner. The only reason I am giving a 2 rather than 1 is because the gentleman working in the morning was nice. For a few extra soles you can stay at a much nicer place in Cajamarca.
