We love staying in the historic districts of old cities like Quito which is why we picked this hotel. When we arrived, the courtyard was absolutely beautiful. Then we were taken to our room, away from the main building, down a dark and winding hallway. We walked into our room which was basically a brick vault with no windows except for one that opened into the windowless hallway and there was nothing to keep people from taking whatever was within reach. There was not even a fan in the room to move the air. There was no night light in the bathroom in what would be a pitch-black room when the lights were out. They did not provide water in the room, which every other hotel (six others) we stayed in, in Ecuador, did.
All the light fixtures were bare bulbs and the room smelled very strongly of bug spray. The plug on one bedside table was completely broken and could not be plugged in, the other light sparked when we turned it on. There were dirty socks in the drawer.
We complained and were given another room, up three more flights of winding stairs. Lots of windows and minimal bug spray smell. The beds were less than two feet off the floor, and I think they saw their best days in the 1970s. Both the mattresses and pillows were the hardest I have ever experienced. It was like sleeping on cement.
The long and the short of it, we left the next day and went to the Hilton. When we signed out no one asked us why we were leaving early and seemed totally unconcerned. No questions were asked about our experience.
Do not trust the website. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.
