Nice laid back resort for a quick getaway

by Karyn S

Spent two nights at Capt Hiram's Resort. The resort was clean and the decor was beautiful and tropical. Room was clean. Right across the street was their restaurant. We ate at the restaurant for breakfast, lunch and supper. The fried green tomatoes were out of this world delicious. The shrimp and grits were great. The atmosphere sitting on the water was amazing. After supper each night we went to the sand bar. The service at the bar was amazing. The live music was good. The weather made our entire weekend relaxing. We will return to the area. The only complaint i had was the beds were really uncomfortable and when i went to the front desk to ask for extra blankets or mattress pad to soften the beds the just told me "the beds are new sorry they are so hard." The left me a thin mattress cover, not a thick pad or blanket to help. My back is not feeling that great and I didn't sleep well. I wish the beds were more comfortable that would definitely seal the deal for us return to this property. Also our room was on the second floor with no elevator. I recently had my knee replaced so stairs are always an issue for me. If I would have known i would have requested a bottom floor. i give them 4 out of the 5 stars mostly because of the beds. I will recommend Capt Hiram's Resort for a quick getaway.

Fun, but dated

by Graham M

Fun place, lot of drinking going on, but rooms are tired, lots of small things broken. Worst thing was bed, seemed like mattress worn out and no support for back. I only slept 2 hours on third night. Room balcony overlooked car park. Room smelled funky and when we checked in on Sunday I overheard manager say our room had been moved as original room carpet had to be washed.... But it is fun if you want a few drinks by the river, hear some live music, and a few good places within stumbling distance like Earl’s and Crab E Billy seafood.
