Great location ruined by Breakfast Host, Waste Water in Bath & Incorrectly posted Charges

by Jim_lad_58

The hotel is in a great setting and has very nice grounds and a lazy river. On booking our vacation we paid for the breakfast package for our 5 night stay. On our first visit to the breakfast restaurant we were taken to our table but were not explained what to do by the host (this was not Kathy on the first day). After getting assistance from the waitress we had our breakfast but were gobsmacked when the bus boy handed me my pancakes across the table instead of bringing them around. Also we were surprised to be issued with a bill for signing and adding any gratuity, most hotels we have stopped at when you take the breakfast don’t issue you with a bill every morning they just take your room number at the entrance, I can only assume this is done to cover gratuity and it does put you in an awkward position if you don’t tip them each day. On our 3rd visit for breakfast I mentioned this to the host Kathy who abruptly said the bill was presented to show how much your breakfast was worth, I simply said they could save paper for the people taking the breakfast package and not present a bill each day. But as some other reviewer has mentioned there is only one way and that is Kathy’s. On our 4th visit 2 guys marched past the host into breakfast only to be stopped by Kathy shouting excuse me are you with other guests, they said no and she reprimanded them by saying that is why I am here to seat customers, she certainly is not to be messed with and appears full of her own importance yet seems to panic and also ruins the spirit of the day. On checking our bill with reception towards the end of our stay we noticed we had been charged twice for our breakfast on two separate days so I would suggest people scrutinise there bills before settling up. On the subject of breakfast I do think 18% gratuity equating to $10 a day is far too much for just bringing out coffee and a juice. After doing considerable walking during our vacation I decided to buy a foot file to scrub my feet in the bath, but to my horror I returned to our room 4338 to see black waste spots in the bath, there were quite numerous and on touching them they smelt not very nice, my wife tried to clear them by running some water but they would not disappear. On calling reception they sent an engineer named Wolf who cleaned the spots using chlorine, he was a very nice German guy who explained the pipes are too small and when too many people use a shower/bath at the same time residue feeds back into the bath. I find it incredible that the hotel know about this issue but fail to rectify it properly and I notice this has already been complained about in another review. Until the drainage issue is properly resolved and the host Kathy is replaced I don’t think we will return.

Resort (great) and golf (frustrating start)

by JK0NY

JW Marriott offered excellent service. Staff were very friendly at the hotel. Signature Grill offered many options for lunch and dinner. Salud was a great quick drinks stop to hang out by the fire and watch sports. We also played golf here. Course is beautiful. Trying to schedule lessons were disappointing in the beginning, hard to reach the pros and just wasn’t clear how it worked at the pro shop. Apparently you have to stick with the first pro you talk to at the shop and they are not one and the same like a few places in the east coast. I then got yelled at as well by Chico at the pro shop because of their own lack of guidance and disclosure, had a bad phone call with him, so we were definitely off to a terrible, frustrating, incredibly foul start. Dreaded it until I got there. In the end, it worked out fine, Chico is better in person and a good instructor, but definitely a frustrating experience when you’re trying to plan a vacation.
