Awesome location and roof deck to enjoy the view...cant beat the price!

by Dealio1

We booked this last minute to stay one night in La Jolla after we dropped our 4th and last son off at UCSD. I had read a review about the roof deck, so honestly chose a cheaper room (great price but it kept my expectation low) because we would be hanging out on that roof deck. It did not disappoint!! We brought our take-out and drinks and sat by the fire pit.
The better part of our stay though was a lovely front desk gal who upgraded us to an ocean front suite upon hearing of the reason for our stay- and made us feel special :)
Location is great for access to many restaurants and of course the ocean- there is a great cliff top path for walking and viewing sea caves and sea life. You do get a waft of that strong smell at times so beware.
Our room was clean, you can see where they have chosen to upgrade, its quaint and beachy, but you can also see signs of salt-air exposure. Not unexpected for locale and price.
We will definitely be back as our son has 4 years down in this awesome area.

Under the weather

We all see and bad reviews but I can't tell you enough how poorly maintained the property is. Our stay was from 09/12/19-09/15/19

Upon arrival we were notified of both nights had parties and we were not permitted after 4 on the roof top. No prior notification at all for this. We were told that the have a alcohol licence but what they only have is a small cooler that sell beer individually.
We had a room to choose from as we requested and paid full price for BUT the party was above us and the noise was bad. The noise continued until after midnight out on the road and above our heads from the tear down of the party rental..
We switched rooms, the rooms are spacious for a family.
Rooms had very very dirty shower floors and the electrical outlets were partially hanging from walls. Rusty refrigerator and floor tiles all peeling from corners. Bathroom door half painted and toilet barely flushes. MOST importantly the deck metal bars are not secured and have rusted loose and are only held on but the to bars. Room 150
Cody the property manager advised us that he has been the manager there for several years and would not do any compensation. He offered us a complementary phone call from another property. NONE available, He never even contacted us back to see if anything else could have been better.
