We arrived to a hotel under total renovation- all but maybe 2 rooms habitable. The fumes from varnish overwhelmed me when I arrived at our room and I had to fling open the windows. How stupid and dangerous to put us in this position - we have had the AC on all night with windows wide open . There was no offer of help with luggage and my 73 year old hubby struggled 3 flights with the bags in view of the owner and receptionist until a painter came to give me a hand. There is no English spoken at all and nowhere slightly pleasant to relax - frankly it's horrible and as there never will be a lift, only suitable for backpackers - but I would find another location as this is no mans land.

My wife and I found ourselves with 1 night in Puerto Moldonado before going on a rainforest trip. While we typically stay in more luxurious places, La Torre Valsai was a pleasant surprise.
The hotel is what it says it is - clean, quiet, functional. The air conditioning and the wifi worked much better than many other more expensive hotels that we stayed at.... The service (from a family) was all in Spanish, but they went out of their way to ensure we understood everything - even sending up the teenage son to configure our wifi.
It's not fancy, but if you want a place to sleep without spending much, don't hesitate.
