Overview

For more than 100 years, Lake Morey Resort has welcomed families to its country resort, nestled between Vermont’s Green Mountains and New Hampshire’s White Mountains near the Connecticut River. Run by the Avery family since 1972, guests return to this quiet, intimate lake, year after year. The majority of the resort’s green property is its 18-hole golf course, packed with guests throughout the summer. The resort itself lies along Lake Morey, with a small stretch of sand and sports courts set near shady trees. Guests gather to dine with lake views, and most spend their days idling on the lake or hiking and biking the nearby trails, including walks and bike rides around the 5-mile lake.

It may call itself a resort, but it has an inn feel. Even at full capacity, the resort never feels full, and families spread out to enjoy Vermont’s outdoor spoils. Kids find happiness in simply enjoying the lake, letting their fingers prune until parents call them out for mealtimes. It’s a relaxing escape for families looking to truly get away.

Annual Summer Fun

by Patricia M

My husband and I love this resort! We make a point to visit the Lake Morey Resort for a night or two every summer. We always choose a lakeside room, where the views are incredible. The people at the resort are always very friendly and helpful! There is so much to do. We most enjoy being on the lake. The lake activities include kayaks, canoes, and paddle boards - all free to use! I should include that the lake is super clean, and the swimming is wonderful. If it gets rainy, you can use the indoor pool, play pool or do a puzzle in the game room. I should also mention the lovely golf course. It's worth staying for a couple of nights so you can get a round of golf in. So much to do in an idyllic setting!

Had a nice time in a beautiful location

by Wanderer761331

My husband and i just returned from a weekend at Lake Morey resort. Overall we were very happy with the resort. It was great that we were able to use resort Paddle Boards, Kayaks, Canoes, and Bikes. It meant we did not have to load up the car with all of our own equipment. The resort is a little older, but it appears that they have been making updates. Our Terrace room was large and comfortable. We loved having a deck to sit on and enjoy the views. We only had one meal in the lounge. It was just so,so and the service was quite slow. This trip we were without our 13 year old son, but we would definitely return with him. There are many family activities, most of which are no additional charge.

Family Activities

Lake Morey
The main draw when visiting Lake Morey Resort is its lakefront location. While the "beach" is about 6 feet in length, kids won't care when they can spend all day swimming in the lake and jumping off of the resort's raft. Included in a stay is free use of kayaks, paddleboards and canoes, and for an additional fee, families can enjoy wake boarding, water skiing and tubing ($65 for a half hour; $110 for a full hour). Families can fish on the lake, but must obtain a fishing license in Fairlee.

Children's Program
In the summer months, a complimentary children's program is offered at the Children's Cabin for kids 3 to 12. Pre-registration is requested two weeks in advance, so be sure to book before arrival.

Game Rooms
The resort's old-fashioned essence is part of its charm, and game rooms at Lake Morey Resort aren't filled with flashy video games and TV's but rather include Ping Pong, billiards, card games and board games.

Movies
During the summer, movies are shown nightly in the theater, including a 7 and 9 p.m. movie. DVD rentals are also available at the front desk, although not all rooms are equipped with DVD players and availability is first-come, first-served.

Indoor Pool
An indoor pool is available for year-round enjoyment, from 5:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily.

Courts
The resort offers a half court for basketball (lighted for night play), volleyball court and two tennis courts, each available at a first-come, first-served basis.

Hiking
Lake Morey is a 5-mile lake with a nice trail for walking. Shorter and longer hiking trails nearby can be found with the help of the front desk staff, who can provide maps of local trails.

Biking
Free bikes, available on a first-come, first-served basis, are available at the recreation shack. Enjoy a bike ride around the 5-mile lake.

Family Dining

Included with a stay at Lake Morey is breakfast and dinner daily. (Lunch is available, but is not included in the price.) Meals are offered the Lakeside Dining Room, including a full country breakfast buffet and a four-course dinner menu.

A bistro menu is available in the Steamboat Lounge or Lakeside Dining Room Sundays through Thursdays, and the Lakeside Dining Room on Friday nights. Takeaway pizza is available from 6 to 8 p.m. from the Steamboat Lounge.

Light lunches can also be found at the Clubhouse during golf season.

Boxed lunches can be ordered the evening before an outing, to enjoy on the lake or while hiking and exploring the area.

Kids' menus are not available, but entrée options include chicken, beef and fish, which may please young guests.

Planning & Tips

All About the Extras
A list of local babysitters is available at the front desk, for anyone looking to have child care during their stay.

Complimentary Internet is available throughout the resort.

The Art of Smart Timing
In the summer months, Lake Morey is a quiet and pretty lake that families can enjoy, along with hiking along nearby trails. Fall is also very pretty for visits and leaf peeping excursions. In the winter, the resort isn't too far from some of Vermont's ski areas. Spring is known as "Mud season" in Vermont, and you may wish to skip a visit during those months.

Getting There
The nearest airport in Vermont is Burlington International Airport, which is about one hour from the resort. Manchester, N.H., also provides airport services, at about the same distance. You'll need a rental car to get to the resort.

Getting Around
You'll want to have a car when visiting Lake Morey, as the resort does not provide transportation. Having a car provides a means to explore the various hiking trails and nearby attractions, such as the Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Factory tour, which is within an hour's drive.

For Mom and Dad
One of the resort's main draws for adult guests is its 18-hole, par 70, 6,024-yard golf course that fronts the resort. The Waters Spa is a small onsite spa providing massage and facial treatments to guests 16 and up. The spa lounges include saunas, showers and changing rooms. The spa is located near the resort's fitness center, which offers ellipticals, stationery bikes, treadmills and weight machines.
