I admit it: I’ve never skied… But with something called “Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month,” I sort of have an obligation to learn… and so do you. During the month of January, hundreds of resorts in nearly two-dozen states will encourage and entice new skiers and snowboarders with exceptional deals. These are our favorites:

1. Alta Resort, Utah

Just east of Salt Lake City, Alta Resort is offering a Learn to Ski Package. Priced at just $199, the package includes four two-hour lessons, four beginner lift tickets and rental equipment for four days. Offer is exclusive to Utah residents. Reservations required.

2. Mount Washington Resort, N.H.

Purchase a Learn to Ski or Ride Package for $85 and receive a voucher for an intermediate ski or ride package in Bretton Woods, valid Sunday through Friday, non-holiday, through the end of the 2012-2013 ski season. Offer valid January 1 through 11 or January 19 through 31.

3. Hunter Mountain, N.Y.

Any individual who purchases a Single-Pak at Hunter Mountain Sunday through Friday in the month of January (non-holiday) will receive a second Single-Pak free! Single Paks start at $79, and include a lower mountain lift ticket, lesson and rentals for ages 13 and up.

4. Canyons Resort, Utah

At Canyons Resort in Park City, families will find a $13 special for Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month: $13 for a lift ticket, $13 for a lesson and $13 for rentals, totaling at $39. Offer is exclusive to Utah residents, and is not valid January 19 through 21.

5. Arapahoe Basin, Colo.

Arapahoe Basin invites families to enjoy Super Sunday Specials in January. New skiers and snowboarders can get packages with lift tickets, rentals and half-day (morning) lessons. Ski packages are $79 for kids and $99 for adults; snowboard packages are $84 for kids, and $107 for adults.

6. Bolton Valley, Vt.

For $149 per person, the Learn to Love It Package provides three days of beginner lessons, including a 90-minute lesson with a full-day lift ticket (limited access) and equipment. Upon completion, you’ll earn 50 percent off lift tickets, lessons and rentals for the remainder of the season.

7. Alpine Meadows, Calif.

Just north of Lake Tahoe, Alpine Meadows is offering $39 packages in January. Packages include half-day instruction, a beginner lift ticket and equipment rental. Offered on January 23 and 27.

8. Stowe Mountain Resort, Vt.

Big Easy and Stowe for Starters afternoon lesson products will be priced at $29 during the month of January. Packages include a two-hour beginner children’s lesson or 1.5-hour beginner adult lesson, rental package and limited access to lifts.

9. Whiteface Mountain, N.Y.

Whiteface Mountain is offering $59 Learn to Ski and Snowboard Packages. Included are lessons, rentals and lower-mountain lift tickets. Lessons begin at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m., and are available for skiers and riders ages 13 and older.

10. Powderhorn Mountain Resort, Colo.

Complete three lessons and get a free pass for the remainder of the season at Powerdown Mountain Resort, located approximately 45 minutes east of Grand Junction.
