With most flights from the United States to Jamaica landing in Montego Bay, this is typically the first view visitors have of the Caribbean nation known for being the birthplace of reggae legend Bob Marley. The Jamaican flag, in colors of red, green and gold, is prominent in the city and in reggae music, and from the moment guests step off of their plane, they are whisked into a relaxing world with steel drum bands, Caribbean rum and sunshine.

Families have long been visiting Montego Bay, as flights are often direct and not as expensive as other Caribbean island nations. As the city sprawls and fans out into stretches of sandy beaches along water the perfect shade of blue, resorts with water sports, swimming pools, kids' clubs and spas await, many of them all-inclusive.

Some reports of Jamaica being unsafe for tourists may scare off some travelers, but those reports are for remote destinations in the rain forests of the island and not this popular city.

It is easy to get around Montego Bay, which is also a cruise stop for Caribbean itineraries, and families will immediately feel welcome on the island.
