Pleasant but Noisy

by Mike Z

Lovely staff. Lovely attached breakfast restaurant, although the 'deal' of £12.50 (a £2.50 discount) is silly since most breakfasts on the menu are less than that and when you can walk across the street and get a sandwich at Pret a Manger for under £5. The location was perfect. The walls are thin. On my first night the man next door kept me awake for over an hour, coming into his room around 3 am, banging things around and talking on the phone with his girlfriend. I had to bang on his door at 4 am and he refused to quiet down until I explained that I could hear every word. After finally getting back to sleep around 5 am, I was awakened again at 6 am by the sound of jackhammers close outside. The rooms are smaller than they appear in advertisements, although nice overall. I had emailed about room size ahead of time (since some hotels in this area would have you sleep in a closet) and was given reassurances, but was still a bit disappointed. No desk; nowhere to write. And it was hard to find places to set things down without knocking them on the floor or losing them. Given the problems with the noise and the smallish size of the room, I found this hotel rather overpriced.

Relaxed and welcoming atmosphere

Great central location and lovely relaxed vibe. All the staff we dealt with were friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was delicious and served by friendly staff. Beds and rooms were very comfortable. The hairdryer in our room didn't work, but we called reception and they brought a new hairdryer to our room within a few minutes. The only negative is that our room wasn't ready when we arrived which was a little disappointing as we arrived over an hour after the check-in time, but these things happen, and we didn't have to wait long for them to sort it out. I would definitely book again.
