Disney World is expanding with its new Flamingo Crossing, a new development that will be located near Disney’s Animal Kingdom. The new area will caterer to budget-conscious Disney travelers with the addition of seven properties to be built on the property within the next five years.

The first of the seven hotels have broken ground this week with plans to open in 2016 to coincide with the opening of highly anticipated Avatar ride (based on the movie) at Animal Kingdom. Marriott Springhill Suites and Marriott TownePlace Suites are being developed by JL Properties and will occupy a 9.6-acre site and provide visitors 498 rooms. The two properties will share amenities, including a common pool area (see image).

The same builders will develop the remaining five new hotels but have yet to announce the brands who will be joining the 450-acre mixed use area that will include restaurants, a retail village and housing. The entire project is expected to take up to 10 years to complete.
