Cancun Gaining an Hour of Sunlight

Cancun and Riviera Maya remain top destinations for family travelers, and as of February 1, visitors to the area will gain an extra hour of daylight when the state of Quintana Roo officially changes its time zone from Central Standard Time (CST) to Eastern Standard Time (EST).

The new time change means Cancun and neighboring Riviera Maya will gain an additional hour of sunlight each day for more activities outdoors. It also keeps flights from the East Coast in line with the destination, with 22 U.S. airports and eight Canadian airports located in EST zones. Cancun Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) feels the time zone change will help reduce time for flight connections and make flying to Cancun more convenient.

Says Cancun CVB CEO Jesus Almaguer, “Cancun is excited to welcome this time change, which will allow our visitors to take advantage of one more hour in our beautiful destination.”
