One of Family Vacation Critic’s top amusement parks of 2015 is growing. Carowinds, located in Charlotte, North Carolina, is expanding its water park in 2016, which will make it the largest water park in both of the Carolinas.

Formerly known as Boomerang Bay, the water park will be expanded and rebranded to become Carolina Harbor Waterpark, reopening in May 2016. Included in the multi-acre expansion will be a six-story water slide complex with six different water slides, a 2-acre little kids’ splash playground with two toddler areas and a multilevel water play area, a wave pool, sand volleyball courts, a restaurant with two outdoor patios, new restrooms and a bath house. Carowinds is also adding 40 new cabanas and more than 1,000 lounge chairs.
