TripAdvisor, the parent company to FamilyVacationCritic.com, released a new survey showing family travel is on the rise.

The survey of more than 2,700 found 92 percent plan to travel with their family this year, a 7 percent increase over 2013. Of that number, 20 percent plan to travel with extended family, for multigenerational trips.

The survey also revealed that 78 percent of respondents will travel between June and August, with July remaining the peak month. Families also seek beach vacations, with 66 percent heading to a beach. Forty-six percent plan to visit a city, and 33 percent will travel to a national park. The majority of those surveyed plan to stay at a hotel when they travel, with 41 percent renting a vacation home/condo, and 20 percent electing to stay with family or friends.
