It may be a couple of years away, but Houston is already gearing up to host the 2017 Super Bowl by announcing plans for a new 1,000-room hotel.

The Marriott Marquis Hotel broke ground over the weekend, in its location directly across the street from the George R. Brown Convention Center. The hotel is expected to open in 2016 as just one part of new attractions and amenities to the city in time for the Super Bowl.

The new hotel, the Houston Marriott Marquis, will feature 20,000 square feet of retail space on the ground floor, and feature a sports bar, two restaurants, a coffee shop, a fitness center, a spa, and an outdoor pool area with a lazy river.
