The 800-year-old Ashford Castle, a popular destination hotel for visitors to Ireland’s County Mayo, officially reopened last Friday following an extensive $75-million restoration.

The two-year restoration project re-establishes the iconic 350-acre property, part of the Red Carnation Hotel Collection, as one of Europe’s best luxury hotels. The castle’s 82 guest rooms and suites all received a new look, while new amenities include a 32-seat movie theater, a billiards room, a children’s game room, boutique wine cellars for private dining, Wi-Fi throughout the property, and a lakeside cottage available for rent. The property’s original amenities also received enhancement, include Ireland’s oldest School of Falconry, a nine-hole golf course, tennis courts, an equestrian center, and fishing.

The final piece of the restoration includes the addition of a five-room spa with indoor swimming pool and fitness center, slated to open in July.
