Largest Lilac Festival in U.S. Scheduled for May

The largest lilac festival in North America returns to Rochester, New York, this May, in what is also the largest 10-day free festival in the U.S.

Taking place May 6 to 15, 2016, the Lilac Festival is celebrating its 118th year, Visitors will see the largest lilac collection in the U.S., and enjoy nonstop entertainment, food and shopping. The event includes the Lilac Festival’s televised lilac parade, the Lilac Brew Fest, a Wine Tasting and Farmer’s Market, and a Home and Garden Show.

Admission to the festival is free, with it operating daily from 10:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. Art in the Park, taking place on weekends, will feature art and shopping with more than 160 vendors and artists, closing at 5 p.m. each day offered. Live music will be featured throughout the event, with a special Kids’ Stage also available. The Lilac Parade will take place on Saturday, May 7, at 10:30 a.m., and will include 20 marching bands and more than 2,500 participants.

The Home & Garden Show, taking place on May 7 and 8, will cost $8 per person, with children under 8 years of age free.

The festival’s wine and beer events are for ages 21 and older. If interested in attending, the Wine Tasting & Farmer’s Market will take place May 12 and 13, with an afternoon session from 12:30 to 4 p.m. and an evening session from 4:30 to 8 p.m. Tickets are $15 per person. The Lilac Brew Fest will take place on Saturday, May 14. More than 100 craft beers from more than 30 breweries will be available for tastings between 1 and 4 p.m. and 5 and 8 p.m. sessions. Admission is $35, with anyone not drinking but enjoying the live music and beer festival just $10 entrance.
