In the land of witches and warlocks, Lark Hotels is opening its newest boutique hotel. The Merchant will open in the heart of Salem, Massachusetts, 40 minutes north of Boston, on Nov. 25.

The first boutique hotel in Salem, The Merchant will only feature 11 guest rooms and suites. The building once was home to sea merchant Joshua Ward, who welcomed President George Washington for an overnight during his inaugural tour in 1789. Today, the 18th century building has been transformed on its interior with original woodwork combined with rich jewel tones, floating staircases, and Asian-inspired artwork, meant to evoke the harborside town’s vital role in trade during Washington’s era.

To celebrate its grand opening, The Merchant is offering 10 percent off rates from Nov. 25 through Dec. 17, 2015 with its “Explore the Neighborhood” package. The package also includes two tickets to the Peabody Essex museum and a $20 dining credit to Naumkeag Ordinary, near the hotel.
