Lifeguards May Become Staple on World’s Biggest Cruise Ships

Following in the footsteps of its competitors, Norwegian Cruise Line is answering the call to add lifeguards to its swimming pools for safety. In January, Royal Caribbean announced it was seeking lifeguards to begin services on its largest ships in March, and prior, Disney Cruise Line was the only large cruise line to offer lifeguards.

Norwegian will provide lifeguard services this summer on Norwegian Escape, Norwegian Getaway, Norwegian Breakaway and Norwegian Epic — the cruise line’s four largest and newest ships. All ships will have lifeguards by early 2018.

Said Norwegian President and CEO Andy Stuart, “Norwegian has stationed pool monitors on our largest ships since 2015 and we are now taking further steps to ensure the safety of our youngest guests with the addition of certified lifeguards across our fleet. While parents are always the first line of supervision when it comes to water safety, we felt it was important to provide this added measure across our fleet.”
