It’s been 75 years since “Madeline” captured our hearts, and the New York Historical Society is honoring the beloved storybook character — and her creator, Ludwig Bemelmans — in a special exhibit. “Madeline in New York: The Art of Ludwig Bemelmans,” which opened July 3, offers more than 100 works, including never-before-seen illustrations and exclusive etches and letters. Family Audio Guides are available (for children ages 4 and up), as are standard, self-led tours.

The exhibit will be open through Oct. 19, and is available for the standard price of admission at the New York Historical Society (adults – $19; kids 5 to 13 – $6; kids 4 and under – free). An Afternoon Tea, complete with “Madeline” readings and a Parisian menu, is available Sept. 11; book immediately — all other Afternoon Teas have sold out.
