As Portola Hotel & Spa in Monterey, Calif., undergoes renovations, it is enticing families to continue to visit with a number of special amenities and programs.

As children arrive at check-in, they will receive construction hats. Put on the hard hats and go to “work” at a construction site developed by MY Museum. The hands-on construction zone for kids allows them to learn and explore with a small frame of a playhouse. Families may also visit the museum, just three blocks from Portola Hotel & Spa.

Children ages 3 to 12 will also enjoy complimentary Portola Pirates programs during their stay, including five voyages with unique activities and treats. A self-guided treasure hunts and pirate-themed fun will also be featured.

Hotel renovations include a first phase renovation of the upper lobby, front desk and main entrance to the hotel. The second phase includes a new lobby restaurant and enhancements to guest rooms. The entire project will be complete mid-April, with construction hours between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m., and some varying weekend hours.
