Texas-based theme park, Morgan’s Wonderland, broke ground this month on an expansion that will create the world’s most accessible splash park for families with special needs. The multi-million park is inspired by the daughter of CEO Gordon Hartman, of the Gordon Hartman Family Foundation. Morgan, who is now 22, deals with both cognitive and physical challenges, providing the inspiration and the name for the new splash park.

Morgan’s Inspiration Island will feature six tropically themed areas, each with designs to accommodate guests in wheelchairs and with hearing and visual impairments. Five water play areas and a river boat adventure ride will offer a variety of splash elements, with guests wearing waterproof wristbands with RFID technology that helps parents find where children may be playing.

The new water park, which is expected to open in 2017, will be located between Morgan’s Wonderland and the STAR Soccer Complex in San Antonio. Morgan’s Wonderland, celebrating its fifth anniversary, also features special needs-accessible rides and attractions.
