MSC Cruises Adding Exclusive Bahamas Island

As MSC Cruises launches into the Caribbean, it will offer an exclusive Bahamas Island getaway to itineraries. Signing a 100-year lease with the Bahamas, MSC will develop and occupy its own island, which will be called Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve.

Similar to Disney Cruise Line’s Castaway Cay in the Bahamas and other private islands operated by cruise lines, MSC will operate the island as a marine reserve, offering it as part of its cruising itineraries and an exclusive destination for MSC passengers. The 95-acre Ocean Cay will feature six beaches, with more than 11,000 feet of sand, and be the largest island development in the Caribbean operated by a cruise company.

MSC Cruises will develop the island over the next two years, adding a berth and pier for ships docking at the island, restaurants, kids’ play areas, an inland lagoon, a 2,000-seat amphitheater for live shows, spa bungalows and a zip-line course. All features will be connected via series of walking paths, and guests will be able to rent bicycles to explore the island.

Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve is slated to open in December 2017.
