Joie de Vivre, a boutique hotelier company based in San Francisco, has opened its first property in New York City. Hotel 50 Bowery. a 229-room hotel, is located at 50 Bowery in the heart of Chinatown.

“We knew our first Joie de Vivre property in New York had to be in a neighborhood that allows us to provide guests with the eclectic, destination-driven experiences the brand has been synonymous with for the past 30 years,” said Jamie Sabatier, CEO of Two Roads Hospitality, which partnered with Joie de Vivre. “With an unrivaled location in the heart of Chinatown, Hotel 50 Bowery’s guests will be immersed in the local culture, without sacrificing convenient access to all of New York City’s offerings.”

To showcase the rich history and culture of Chinatown, the Museum of Chinese in America (MOCA) has installed a permanent exhibit on the hotel’s second floor in The Gallery. The 1,500-square-foot exhibit, the “Heart of Chinatown,” showcases many of the artifacts that were found at the hotel’s construction site and highlights the hotel’s location from the 1700s through the early 1900s.

Guests staying at Hotel 50 Bowery will e transported to a vibrant Chinese village at night with dimly lit hallways punctuated by large, bold works of art from Beijing-based graffiti artist Dake Wong. Spacious rooms feature a contemporary aesthetic with subtle touches of Asian heritage. From deluxe and city view rooms to a selection of expansive top-floor suites, guest rooms include floor-to-ceiling windows, and unobstructed views of Manhattan in rooms on the ninth floor and above. The Kindred Suite has a separate living room with a convertible sofa, as well as a private, landscaped terrace overlooking the Manhattan Bridge and Brooklyn skyline.

Guests will also enjoy three restaurant sand lounges. Currently, the hotel’s 21st rooftop bar and lounge, The Crown, is open with Asian and globally inspired street food. This summer, the remaining spaces will open, including Rice & Gold, the hotel’s 220-seat signature restaurant, will offer contemporary Asian-centric cuisine, and the Green Lady, a parlor lounge featuring live music and entertainment.
