In an effort to encourage children and their families to get outdoors and play, President Obama announced the National Park Service will provide free admission to all fourth graders and their families beginning with fall’s school year and running through 2016.

The initiative is called Every Kid in a Park, and it will allow families to forego the $80 annual pass for free admission to national parks, memorials, monuments and federal lands and waters. The initiative coincides with the National Parks Service’s 100th anniversary.

Plan a visit to a National Park by visiting National Parks Family Vacations and take a look at our National Park Summer Guide for inspiration, even before the free year begins.
