Orlando and Miami are competing to bring the highest drop tower attractions to the state of Florida, if not the world.

In Orlando, International Drive (I-Drive) attractions are being announced monthly, and this month Skyscraper at Skyplex revealed its plans to create the world’s tallest free fall drop ride. The ride is slated to be 450 feet in height. Meanwhile, in Miami, SkyRise Miami revealed it will create the SkyRise Drop along with its Sky Plunge jump attraction. SkyRise will be a free fall tower at a height of 650 feet. Currently, the highest free fall attraction is located at Six Flags Great Adventure. Its Zumanjaro: Drop of Doom drops riders 415 feet.

Skyplex Orlando will feature an indoor entertainment complex and a 535-foot-high observation deck. Being built near the Orlando Eye, Skyplex will also feature Skyscraper, the world’s tallest roller coaster. It is slated to be complete in 2017. SkyRise Miami will be a 1,000-foot-tall, multi-use building with entertainment and observation decks. Besides offering views of the Atlantic Ocean to the Caribbean, attractions will include SkyRise Drop, SkyRise Flying Theater and Sky Plunge. It is slated to be complete in 2018.
