Panama City Beach Banning Alcohol for Safer Spring Breaks

For decades, Panama City Beach has welcomed families to its expansive beaches. It has also experienced an influx of college spring breakers, with MTV illustrating and promoting the college party scene. In an effort to curtail the parties fueled by heavy drinking, the Panama City Beach City Council voted unanimously to ban alcohol consumption on its beaches during the month of March, 2016, the peak spring break season.

The controversial vote comes after a string of alcohol-related incidents during the 2015 spring break season, including seven people shot during a house party. Following the incidents, the city put a temporary ban on alcohol from April 1 to 18, resulting in a decrease in incidents. The city council hopes the new ban will make spring break in Panama City Beach safer for all ages in 2016.
