This year marks SeaWorld San Diego’s 50th year as one of Southern California’s top marine attractions. As the celebrations begin, the park unveils its new 3-acre Explorer’s Reef and other treats in March.

Explorer’s Reef is a new beach-themed park area with its own entrance to SeaWorld and four kid-friendly touch pools. Each touch pool will allow children to pet thousands of fish, including sharks, in shaded areas that provide an under-the-sea feel. The new section of the park is a multi-million dollar endeavor, and with its new wave sculpture entrance, will cut down on entry lines throughout the park.

Explorer’s Reef will open March 21 and kicks off the park’s “Sea of Surprises.” The 18-month-long celebration will include new entertainment, new animal encounters, special prizes, fireworks finales in the summer, and new evening Shamu shows. The party extends to SeaWorld’s San Antonio and Orlando locations, as well.
