Vail Resorts has announced it will create the largest ski resort in the United States in Park City, Utah. The mountain resort operator will combine Park City with Canyons Resort to create a property that is more than 7,300 skiable acres. The newest property is part of Vail Resorts’ commitment to invest $110 million into resort improvements.

Vail Resorts will invest the funds in improvements for the upcoming 2015-16 ski season as the end of its five-year investment of more than $500 million to its properties. The largest portion of investment will be the $50 million linking of Park City and Canyons, completing upgrades and transforming two resorts into one. The project includes adding an eight-passenger, high-speed, two-way gondola from the base of existing Silverlode Lift at Park City to the Flatiron Lift at Canyons. King Con and Motherlode Lifts will also receive upgrades. The Summit House Restaurant will receive upgrades, while a new 500-seat restaurant, Miners Camp, will be added to Silverlode Lift. Red Pine Lodge will receive an expansion, and ski trails will be added and widened, with new snowmaking capabilities.

Other projects to be completed before the winter season include upgrading Vail Mountain’s Avanti Express Lift to a six-passenger, high-speed chairlift, expanding the snowmaking system at Beaver Creek, adding new snowmaking to Park 6 terrain at Breckenridge, updating rooms and common areas at Keystone Lodge and Spa, and debuting EpicMix Time, a new technology-based system to cut wait times in lift lines.
