Yosemite National Park has lost a court battle and must change the name of several iconic sites in 2016.

– The Ahwahnee Hotel, which is a National Historic Landmark and has operated in the park since 1927, will now become the Majestic Yosemite Hotel.
Badger Pass Ski Area will be renamed Yosemite Ski & Snowboard Area
Curry Village will be renamed Half Dome Village
– The Wawona Hotel will be renamed Big Trees Lodge
Yosemite Lodge at the Falls will be renamed Yosemite Valley Lodge

The renaming follows a battle with Delaware North, which operated the national park’s lodging, dining and shopping services. Delaware North, no longer managing operations, claimed ownership of the names and is fighting to receive more than $50 million in compensation rights. The National Park Service has decided to change the names to avoid paying compensation. However, Yosemite National Park, also licensed for merchandise with Delaware North, is still be fought over, as the park does not want to lose its brand. Courts have yet to determine the outcome, at this time.
