Overview

Located in San Diego’s historic Gaslamp District, the Omni San Diego is directly connected to PETCO Park by its own bridge, making this hotel a favorite amongst baseball fans. The owner of this hotel is also a baseball fan himself, as evident in his private collection of baseball memorabilia scattered throughout the hotel. The rumor is that he offered it to the Smithsonian, which couldn’t promise to keep the items permanently exhibited, so he chose to permanently exhibit them in his hotel. The collection is quite impressive, as is the hotel’s private entrance to the ballpark for guests only, making it easy to get into San Diego Padres ball games.

Besides the baseball connection, the hotel also features a relaxing rooftop pool with a bar and grill service. It provides excellent views of San Diego, and allows families to relax after a day of sightseeing.

The hotel’s location is also near the convention center, making it a popular business traveler hotel. But don’t fret! This only means more availability and packages for families on the weekends, when they’ll enjoy comfortable, over-sized rooms, onsite dining and the Omni Sensational Kids program.

Reviews

Nice hotel

by josudore

Has a nice small feel to it but with big hotel amenities. Location is excellent - just off the main Gaslamp drag and directly across from the convention center. Has a good outdoor area as well and proximity to the Padres stadium gives you a view directly into it so you can watch the game if your room is in the right location.

Weekend Getaway

by Alison M

Beautiful hotel in heart of Gas-lamp District of San Diego. My husband and I went on a weekend getaway and had the best service. Room was spacious, clean, with a comfortable bed. Great brunch at McCormick Schmick in the lobby. Walking distance to a various restaurants and bars.

Family Activities

Rooftop Pool
The hotel's outdoor rooftop swimming pool can get crowded in late afternoons, but in the morning and on weekends, kids will be able to splash without dirty looks while you sit back and relax. Poolside food and drink service is offered from the Terrace Bar & Grill.

Baseball Memorabilia
Baseball fans will want to explore the hotel's collection of baseball memorabilia, which dates back to the early 21st century. Items can be found on the first, fourth, fifth and sixth floors. The hotel's concierge can also arrange Petco Park Tours for a look at the Padres home ballpark.

Family Dining

The hotel's fine dining can be found at the popular seafood restaurant, McCormick & Schmick's. During the dinner hour, the restaurant is filled with business folk, but the restaurant remains welcoming to kids and is open for breakfast (6 to 10:30 a.m.), lunch (11 a.m. to 4 p.m.) and dinner (4 to 10 p.m.). The restaurant also services in-room dining, which is available 24 hours a day.

Terrace Bar & Grill is open on weekends from spring to fall, and provides poolside lunch and snacks.

Grab coffee, pastries and desserts at Morsel's, which is open in the lobby from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.

Planning & Tips

All About the Extras
Although this city hotel does not provide a kid's club, the Omni's Sensational Kids program provides children with a backpack full of goodies upon check-in, as well as milk and cookies at the first night's turn down. Kids may also borrow the hotel's rolling backpack, filled with toys, books and games.

The Art of Smart Timing
San Diego is a year-round destination with seemingly continuous sunshine and temperate weather. However, the rooftop swimming pool is not heated and closes during the winter months, so if sitting poolside during your trip is a priority, consider the timing.

Getting There
San Diego International Airport is minutes away from the Omni Hotel, and a taxi ride will cost less than $20. While the Gaslamp District and Marina areas are within walking distance, you may want to rent a car for theme parks a little further afield, such as LEGOLAND or SeaWorld.

For Mom and Dad
Massages can be provided through the hotel's on-call service. One treatment room is available on call between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.
