Great location great staff. I the pool is great and the bartender makes great drinks and is very friendly like everyone in Belize. The rooms are big and clean.with great kitchen and great location. It is nice how the have kayaks and masks.
Pelican Reef pros:
Staff is top notch.
Breakfast included is delicious
Property is beautiful and rooms are well appointed and comfortable. Full kitchens. Washer dryer. Rooms are separate and offer a lot privacy. Very updated and nice.
Clean resort ( big deal in BZE)
Bartenders make wonderful ( best on the island in my opinion) drinks. Kai was our personal favorite ( no happy hour that you find in most other resorts)
There is no overcoming the sargassum smell at this property. Some days it is better if the wind changes, but it is still present. They do everything they can to mitigate this (all day cleaning/raking/removing) but it is a problem. They do not have a sea wall which does help mitigate the smell elsewhere on AC.
Private property next door is known to have parties. LOUD late night parties. There was one when we stayed. We wished we had been warned. We had to ask security to move us to sleep for the night.
When Tristan leaves you are the mercy of security or the bartenders. No onsite front desk or anyone to contact for a problem. We thought Tristan was the Manager ( because he acts as such and is great at
his job ) only to find out he is the concierge and we needed to have security try to find someone to help!
It is further down a dirt road than many places. Only two nearby restaurants serve dinner. None for
Lunch. . They do not serve dinner and lunch menu is limited.
Pool is COLD and deep. Not a “lounge poolside” pool arrangement. ( if you can stand the sargassum smell)
For some reason the design of the hotel /pool creates a wind tunnel effect and makes it challenging to be poolside.
We had problems with AC AND water dispenser ( and bugs but that is to be expected). They did what they could and after two days resolved these issues for us.
Internet is slow and inconsistent.
BEACH IS NOT SWIMMABLE. ( TRUE EVERYWHERE IN AC except secret beach and mahogany bay which owns a private beach)
Beaches in AC are NOT PRIVATE nor is the pier during daytime. There is no swimming even from the pier due to sargassum.
