Phoenix is a vacation destination for some, and a short stopping point for others, as it houses the largest and most convenient airport in Arizona, Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. Most people fly there for trips to some of the state's popular destinations and landmarks, including Scottsdale (just 23 miles away), Sedona, and Grand Canyon National Park.

If you're visiting "Arizona's Urban Heart" en route to another desert destination, consider stopping at the Phoenix Zoo, Heard Museum, Musical Instrument Museum or especially famous Camelback Mountain. If you're planning to stay in Phoenix, know that you're in for a real treat. The city is actually known for its collection of luxurious resorts set amidst the mountains and desert. Many of the resorts feature multiple pools or full-on water parks, plus children's activities, restaurants, and organized excursions to well-known landmarks, including the Grand Canyon (which is located about 3.5 hours away).
