Situated on Mustang Island, a Gulf of Mexico barrier island just north of Padre Island, is the small beach town of Port Aransas. Also known as Port A, small beach cottages, a few hotels and several restaurants (some that have been around for decades), line this Texas coast town. Port A is about to boom and grow into a mega beach destination with major resorts and restaurateurs descending on the place in coming months and years. Port Aransas sustained quite a bit of damage during Hurricane Harvey in 2017, but much has been rebuilt and more is revitalized each day.

Families will love the 18 miles of wide open beaches, where cars and golf carts are permitted. But the vehicles are designated to a certain area so there are no safety concerns with kids and cars on the beach. Camping and bonfires are permitted on the beach and the Gulf of Mexico waters are often calm. Families will love spending days splashing in the water and building castles in the sand. Boat cruises to see dolphins, parks with playgrounds, parasailing, fishing and art galleries will fill a week's vacation at the beach in Port Aransas.
