Formerly the President Abraham Lincoln Hotel & Conference Center, this hotel in Springfield, Illinois, was renovated in 2013 and will receive more renovations in 2017. Guests are greeted by elegance, class and comfort as soon as they enter the hotel that features dark wood in bright rooms. The guestrooms and suites are spacious and family functional, and the red and black sophisticated décor is a little bit Lincoln with a modern touch.

Located near many of the Lincoln attractions, families can walk to the Lincoln museum, home, Old State Capital and many other attractions and restaurants from the Abraham Lincoln Hotel. After a day of sightseeing, kids will have fun playing in the indoor pool, too. The two onsite restaurants, open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, are convenient for families, along with the complimentary Wi-Fi.

Luxury Suites
Guests enter the Chairman and Governor suites and are met with elegance in the foyer, which also has a powder room. The large living and dining rooms feature a sofa, chairs and large dining table, and a kitchenette features a mini-fridge and microwave. The one-bedroom suite can be connected to a second bedroom. The bathroom, off the bedroom, features a soaking tub and stand-up shower.

Junior Suites
The junior suites, each featuring corner windows, are ideal for families. The large windows keep the room bright, but the black and white, floor-to-ceiling curtains can keep the room dark for those light sleepers. The suites feature a separate living room with a sleeper sofa, mini-fridge and small dining table. The one-bedroom suite can be connected to a second bedroom and there is a bathroom in each bedroom. The bathroom does not have a bathtub, but there is a television in each bedroom and the living room.

The guestrooms feature one king or two double beds. The bathrooms feature a shower/tub combo and some of the guestrooms feature a mini-fridge. So if that's something you may need, be sure to request it when making a reservation.

Bad Experience Overall

by PermVaca

I stayed here 3 nights on a room block. The hotel was extremely busy so no extra perk for being Diamond (vs gold). The breakfast was terrific (that’s the best thing about hotel), but the strict policy of having to register your guest for breakfast was absolutely ridiculous.

No other Hilton or DoubleTree I stayed at had this policy or if they did they surely did not enforce it. My colleague has silver status and probably would’ve been gold had he not have a severe accident last year which stopped his travel (he has silver status from his timeshare). Anyway we hosted at the hotel with our room block. We selected this hotel and will surely not select it next year. They would not allow him to be my guest bc he was staying in a separate room as a silver member. I mean they are actually making more money bc I am not having a guest stay for free. It was seriously annoying AF. Then they next few days the hotel was overrun by high school kids slamming doors late at night, music loud, screaming laughing, running down the hallway. Security game up several times and it took about 1 hr for it to stop. That was around 11 pm. Others in our room block said they were glad they were not the only ones disappointed.

Another bizarre thing is on one day of our stay the free coffee was now near the hallway near the restaurant and they were charging! Wth?! One person eventually got a refund but the manager of this property should seriously reevaluate their rules and policies.

Lastly, I presented my business credit card to the desk upon check-in. They didn’t confirm which card I wanted to be charged, but since I presented the business card on check-in I thought it was the same card on file. I checked-out and asked for a hard copy as I did not receive anything under my door. Well they charged my personal card and I asked to switch and all was said was sorry too late you checked-out.

The customer service here is friendly but sucks for actually doing something for you.
Next year’s room block will likely be elsewhere based on my experience.

My favorite Springfield Hotel

by btrost

The Abe Lincoln is a great value for Springfield, the location is great close to all the Lincoln activities, all kinds of dining and pubs. You can walk, drive or take public transportation to any where you wish to go from this location.

Family Activities

Kids will love the indoor pool, which has a depth of 3 to 4 feet, and there is also a whirlpool. The island mural painted on the wall will have families feeling like they are in a tropical land as they relax in one of the pool chairs.

Pool towels are provided and there are men's and women's locker rooms with restrooms located directly outside the pool area. No lifeguard is regularly on duty, however, at the request of a larger group, the hotel may hire a lifeguard. The pool is open from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. and a room key is needed for access.

Family Dining

Lindsay's Restaurant
This casual restaurant is open for breakfast (6 to 10:30 a.m.), lunch (2 to 5 p.m.) and dinner (5 to 9 p.m.). Families will find a full breakfast buffet at Lindsay's and it is complimentary for Hilton Honors members. A kids' menu is available, as are highchairs.

The Globe Tavern
Open for lunch and dinner from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m., daily, The Globe Tavern has a kids' menu and offers cocktails and late-night appetizers.

Planning & Tips

Guests can enjoy complimentary, strong Wi-Fi, but if you want even more speed, you can upgrade for a daily fee.

Garage, covered parking is attached to the hotel and available for a daily $7 fee. Valet parking is also available for a $13 fee.

Things-To-Do Screen
Kids will love the touch screen in the lobby that can provide information on local things to do and directions on how to get there.

A small market is located in the lobby. Guests will find snacks, beverages, frozen meals, medicine and souvenirs available 24/7.

Health Club
The fitness center or health club features cardio and weight machines and gym towels are provided. The fitness center is open 24 hours and a room key is needed to access it.

The Art of Smart Timing
When children are off from school for spring break or the summer, the President Abraham Lincoln Hotel can be a bit busier. But it can be at its busiest in the spring when the state legislators are in session as the State Capitol building is only a few blocks away.

Getting There
The St. Louis International Airport is about an hour and 45 minutes from the President Abraham Lincoln Hotel, and Chicago O'Hare International Airport is about three hours. For smaller airports, Central Illinois Regional Airport in Bloomington is about an hour and 15 minutes and Abraham Lincoln Capital Airport is about 10 minutes away.

Getting Around
If you plan to stay in downtown Springfield, Illinois for much of your trip, a rental car is not entirely necessary, but may a good idea if you plan to venture more than a few blocks away. However, several things to do in Springfield, Illinois and restaurants are within walking distance of the hotel.

For Mom and Dad
Hotel Lobby
If parents want to sneak away for a moment of quiet time, the hotel lobby is the perfect place. It is elegant with its marble fireplace, but comfortable with cozy couches and chairs perfect for curling up with a book. Or, stop by the Globe Tavern for a cocktail.
