Arrived early to a nearby conference. Wanted a place to crush for the night.
It is clean, friendly, and lots of complimentary food events. Walked to La Jolla beach 10 minutes. SD aquarium is halfway to beach. Mall is close by.
Would love to stay longer next visit.
I am in the middle of my week-long stay at this property. The studio is nice, the bed is comfortable and the kitchen is well equipped - there is no problem here. But...
Problem 1: I had opted for a "thrive on long stays" plan, which "Includes 25 USD Grocery Gift Card for every seven nights". I mentioned this while checking in, but the person who checked me in was unaware. I asked again a couple of days later, but none in the reception seems to know about it (perhaps no one has ever stayed here for seven nights consecutively!), and one of them asked me to bring the printout of my reservation email. Really! You are so prompt in blocking my entire stay expenses plus $100 on my credit card while checking in, but refuse to honor what my reservation entitles me to! It is not the $25 that is very important to me (this is a tiny fraction of what I am paying for the room), but what bothers me is their approach to a customer's legitimate issue.
Problem 2: I wanted to use some AMEX Euro travelers' checks as part payment for my stay, but that was also refused with the excuse that they would now know how much the exchange rate would be etc. etc. I was willing to make this payment right at the time of checking in. I am aware that travelers' checks are not common any more, but these can be deposited to the hotel account without any problems.
I am quite surprised that a Marriott property is run with people who appear to be customer-unfriendly and unaware of their own business.
