Just an ok Bimini weekend

by vankent

I did a 3-day weekend trip via The Balearia Ferry from Miami. The ferry departed and arrived time on time. The a/c temperature on the ferry was very cold so be prepared with a coat or jacket. When coming through customs, we were allowed to come through with no bag check since we had small roller bags. There is a free shuttle from the ferry to RWB. Although we arrived 3 hours before check-in time, as HHonors members, we had early access to our room. The check-in line was long since the trolley shuttle brings in about 60+ people at one time. The line was long but moved expeditiously.

Upon arriving at our room, we walked in and immediately saw a suitcase and shoes belonging to an existing guest. Thankfully, no one was in the room as this could have resulted in an embarrassing situation. We returned to the front desk and were told that we were being upgraded from a king to a room with 2 queens with a water view. The view from the balcony was beautiful. Unfortunately, the shower water was luke warm and there was no tv/cable service. In reading other reviews from previous months, the TV seems to be an on-going issue. We were told that the problem was with the cable provider throughout the resort and nothing they could do. I read about the same problem in a review from just a few weeks ago.

We had lunch at Hemingway’s where the bar type food was adequate but expensive. Be prepared for the VAT tax and 18% gratuity added to everything you purchase at RWB. The service was decent but not overly friendly either. Either way they get 18% and there is a line for an extra tip to top it off. Drinks at the sports bar at Hemingway’s next to the casino was enjoyable and bartenders were friendly.

We rented a golf cart for 2 days (80/day) to go into town to see the rest of North Bimini and found a few grocery stores and gift shops on the short ride. The locals were very friendly and everyone waves as you ride by.

Dinner at The Tides restaurant, one of the nicer pricier restaurants onsite at RWB was excellent with a good service and nice selection of steaks and American food options with good portion sizes ($$$$).

The ferry departure time is late on Sunday (6:00 pm pickup time) and checkout time is 11 am, which means you have to find ways to kill time or pay 150.00 late checkout fee.

Overall, not a horrible experience but not the best either.

Resort is solid, exciting new beach construction in progress

Low key destination. Resort lived up to Hilton expectations and quality. We rented a large gas powered golf cart for about $100 a day that enabled us to move easily around the island. We were able to get three couples comfortably on the golf cart for easy transportation.

The Hilton resort had a couple of restaurants and a casino attached to it. Some of the restaurants are closed midweek but all came alive on the weekend. We ate in both the sushi and main restaurant in the resort. Both were excellent however expect Hilton prices.

Exploring the Hilton property we saw fantastic construction going on down by the beach that looks like it will be a terrific attraction when it is opened.

Using the golf cart we ate at several restaurants in town that were all solid, we also went to town beaches that were beautiful and were able to rent chairs and umbrellas for 25 bucks. The Hilton concierge will give you solid directions to locations off the property.

Overall a great adult low key, high beaching destination.
