Dolles

1 Rehoboth Avenue, Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk, Rehoboth Beach, DE

Located at the corner of the boardwalk and Rehoboth Avenue since 1927, the legendary Dolles has mastered salt water taffy and caramel popcorn throughout various hardships through the decades. During the Great Depression and the Second World War, co-founder Thomas Pachides had to purchase sugar on the Black Market in order to keep his business alive. After Pachides purchased Rudolph Dolle’s share in the company in 1962, a storm destroyed the property, along with everything inside accept for one taffy machine. That 3,500-pound machine, which had fallen through the floor, was lifted by crane, restored and is still used today. Pachides grandson runs the family business today and continues to use his grandfather’s recipes. So the caramel corn, fudge, salt water taffy, chocolate and brittles will continue to make families smile with each bite for generations to come.
