Travelers on their way to Lake Atitlan will find an appealing oasis in Chichoy (Maya for “next to the water”), a Mayan family-run restaurant wafting with the heavenly smell of freshly made tortillas. Whether you are just stopping to use the immaculate bathrooms and pick up a drink and a snack, or if you dine in, you can’t go wrong.
For grab and go, there are fresh baked goods and delicious hot cocoa, lemonade and coffee. If you decide to eat a meal there, try the barbequed meats, the cheese and chorizo fondue, or the rave-worthy chicken soup. Families can stretch their legs, too, on the charming grounds, featuring a little footbridge and some geese.
