Reviews

Rating for what it is, not based on a 5 star resort

by Jessie F

Buenos Dias! I love reading the reviews of the Royal Decameron and all the people who give it awful ratings are very entertaining. I have stayed here many times and love it. We will be back in 2 weeks.

Is it my most favorite place to stay-no. But it is by far one of the best cheapest places making it top of our list of favorites.

The good-
I find the beds very comfortable and quality linen
Cold AC in room
Room is clean-maybe aged but clean
FREE DRINKS
FREE FOOD
numerous pools
great beach
walking distance to the store
waking distance to great restaurants and Bucerias
Ceramic painting
Friendly bartenders
Grounds are clean and beautiful

What makes this resort a 3 star which is what they are classified as
Sugary coctails-I drink tequila, soda & lime so I don't care
Food-it's food, buffet style-get over it. There are good options and not so good. You might see scrambled eggs with something that looks like hot dogs in it.
No fridges in rooms
Pay extra for room safe
Beach Towel Nazi's-apparently stealing beach towels is serious business here. I bring my own so I don't have to deal with losing one and paying $25

This is a basic resort-go into it expecting this, not luxury. My husband and I rarely pay more than $125 USD per night when we stay here (I am not talking PP, TOTAL). If we don't like the food we explore outside of the resort, we don't get bent out of shape. We feel for this price if we only eat breakfast onsite we are still winning.

We have met many great people here and have so much fun everytime we go.

Great place and staff

Such a great resort, very friendly staff, clean, great food and drinks and a great beach. Giving 4 stars because of some issues though. My wife and I were there for our honeymoon, promised champagne and fruit basket which no matter how many times we asked we always got "mañana", not a big deal, we fed ourselves and drank sufficiently. We paid an extra $300 to upgrade to ocean front, location was nice but we had 2 double beds -for our honeymoon! We dealt with that until we realized that building 1, ocean front bldg has no A/C! Actually we found out that it has one a/c unit for the whole bldg. After sweating it out for a couple of nights we moved to bldg 3, king bed, a/c all good. Except bldg 3 is right across from the theater so the nightly show might as well be in your room. Fixed that up by putting the day bed mattress in front of the door and all was mostly well.
The only other issue was that the pools were over populated with kids, pool 5 is adults only but it was mostly seniors who had the balls to complain about us and some other couples we met for being loud in the "quiet pool!" To add to that all pools close at 6pm except one " pee pool" with kids galore which is open till 7pm
Take aways:
Aim for bldg 4/5 if you don't have kids as bldg 2/3 seem to be family bldgs
Minimal a/c in bldg 1
This place needs a party pool
Really great bang for your buck though, Bucerias is a great little town, lots of shops and restaurants, typical high pressure Mexican market but lots of choices everywhere.
