Not a great experience

by clairee977

We returned from the Salmakis Hotel on 25th October which we booked with Jet2. Let me just say Jet2 were great, from checking in at the airport to speaking to the rep at the hotel when we had our room issues.

When we arrived our room wasn’t ready so we went to get some lunch, we walked round the pool area and the outside bar along with the beech restaurant which all looked amazing and very clean. We then went back to reception and were taken to our room which was outside, it was almost a semi detached bungalow, it was dark, dirty, bin hadn’t been emptied and very small, it even had a snail crawling up the wall. I called reception and I asked to be moved as I didn’t want to stay there, they offered us another room but not a sea view which we had paid for, so we were asked to go back the next day so we could be moved again!!

The following day we did get a sea view room 714, so we unpacked. Not the cleanest room, carpets were dirty and it was all a bit tatty. Over the following days we noticed the room wasn’t being cleaned, our bed was made but sheets had not been changed, so after 5 days I complained to reception, I went back to the room and stripped the bed, threw our towels in the bath as they were badly stained and I just wanted to make sure everything was changed, which it was, however, they didn’t do any cleaning so the Manager came to the room to look for herself. We were offered a massage each for the inconvenience.

The spa is amazing my husband had a hot stone massage then we had a couples massage and the therapists are very good so I would definitely recommend.

The food is ok, lots of stews which we did like. Service in the restaurant was slow but ok. Drinks were of a good quality so no complaints.

I found the reception staff along with the customers relations staff all very friendly and helpful.

We walked into Bodrum every day which took about 15 minutes, just be aware the walk to Bodrum is very up and down so may not suit everyone. The little boat from the hotel to Bodrum and back again was great, it cost 10 lira each which is about about £1.50 each, I loved Bodrum, the shops and restaurants were fab, we walked along the harbour and the views were breathtaking. As I mentioned the location of this hotel is fantastic.

If you are thinking of going to this area check out the Voyage Hotel (also with Jet2) which is next door to the Salmakis and is an excellent 5* Adult Only hotel. We found this out after speaking to a couple who stayed there and they said it was amazing.

I feel the room cleaners definitely let the hotel down, the main reception and all the outside areas were spotless.

Amazing

We stayed here for a week in September. Our room was a family room with separate bedroom plus lounge area with single bed and sofa area. This was plenty of space for the two of us.
From the first night to the last, we were welcomed and looked after by friendly and attentive staff, be it in the bar, restaurant or pool bar. The food each evening was very good with plenty of choice of salads, hot dishes, plus an array of puddings. It is worth booking the night in the seafood restaurant if you are on AI. Located close to reception, the tables were outside on a balcony and the food tasty and plentiful. You book your table with the concierge and pre-order your main course in advance, but the quality was amazing, and no shortage of portions.
Drinks were a decent strength for an all inclusive hotel and there was none of the queuing at the bar that you often get in AI hotels, instead, a prompt and efficient waiter service.
The pool area was lovely with plenty of sun beds and although there was an entertainments team there was no pressure to join in.
The evening entertainment was varied and worked well across the multitude of nationalities staying. However the “background” music often played before and after was too modern and thumping for our personal tastes.
Would we stay again? Absolutely we would. We saw regular management presence, which is always the sign of a well run hotel, however it is the staff that really make the experience, and in this the Salmakis cannot be faulted.
