Not only is Six Flags New England the oldest among the Six Flags franchise, but it is also the second oldest amusement park in the world, having originally opened in 1870 as Gallup's Grove. Located in a suburb of Springfield, Massachusetts, near the Connecticut border, the park was named under the Six Flags brand in 2000, joining the company's other theme parks and water parks throughout North America, including locations in Mexico City and Montreal, as well as an additional park in China.

Known as the Thrill Capital of New England, there's a something-for-everyone assortment of rides and attractions, including the "world's tallest" swing ride, the New England SkyScreamer that ascends more than 400 feet into the air. The most popular thrill rides include the new SUPERMAN The Ride, The Fireball looping coaster, and BATMAN: The Dark Knight. The oldest ride, original to the park, is the 1941 Thunderbolt roller coaster, but the beautiful 1909 Illions Carousel was transported into the park in 1940.

There are nine themed areas, including the Hurricane Harbor water park. In late September and October, Six Flags New England reopens on weekends for the "Fright Fest" Halloween event, and in December, it offers Holiday in the Park.
