Anniversary Getaway at Water Lilly

by PartimeTravel

We recently stayed 3 nights in the Water Lilly cabin. After a bit of trouble finding the place and no cell service whatsoever, we eventually found it thanks to the kind folks at the Shady Glade Café. It was perfect. It was just the right size and had the amenities we needed. We especially loved the screened in porch and the deck at the end of the water. We didn't use the screened porch over the water because it was very dirty and had wasps and yellow jacket nests. We found the horse shoe game in the back yard and enjoyed playing that a time or two.
I love the way the bathroom floor is painted like a dock over the water. Too cute! We didn't see much wild life. No gators or beavers, just birds. We enjoyed being totally unplugged and we just relaxed and did as little as possible.
We never did meet the owners. We drove over to their place to drop off our registration form but nobody was there, so we explored the really cool garden area and the 3 story tree house type dock. It was such a great, quiet place to spend our anniversary.

Great place to get away from it all and relax

Spatterdock Guest Houses are mostly cabin type accommodations. We stayed in the Duckweed cabin which is a modest cabin from the 40's that sleeps about 5 and has one separate bedroom. Dottie has decorated it with a lot of character and history. There is a map of Caddo Lake painted on the back porch floor!

They provided all the linens and kitchenware needed (except we couldn't find a can opener). It has a fridge, microwave, stove, gas oven (kind of glitchy), coffee pot, flat screen TV (digital broadcast only) with DVD player, and hot showers in private bath. It has wi-fi also, but it can be sporadic. Don't expect to stream. Of course, this is a place to unplug and enjoy nature anyway. They also provided a covered charcoal bbq grill with everything except the food.

Our favorite thing about the cabin was the screened in porch facing the lake and the free access to canoes and kayaks. There are 2 Texas Parks & Wildlife paddling trails that go right by the cabin (Cathedral Paddling Trail & Turtle Shell Paddling Trail). The Spatterdock piers (by Wildfern cabin, Duckweed cabin, & Spatterdock cabin) are great to go out on and get a better view of Caddo or fish.

Make sure to check out Billy Carter's Go-Devil Boat Tours to get a good look at the lake also!
