Summer Activities at Crested Butte Mountain Resort

Families looking for a summer mountain getaway should consider visiting the Crested Butte Mountain Resort in Colorado. The year-round resort is popular during the winter with its 121 trails for snowboarding and skiing, but its summer activities are also a big hit with families. The resort offers several activities and awesome outdoor adventures for all ages.

Kids can prospect for rocks and minerals at the resort’s 65-foot wooden mining sluice, where they’ll pan for treasures in the sand and water. To enjoy this activity, families can purchase Adventure Tickets, which also allow access to many other activities at the resort.

Lift-Accessed 3D Archery Course
Catch the Red Lady Express lift to the top of the mountain to enjoy the 3D Archery Course, geared toward all skill levels. The 1.5-mile loop allows archers to test their skills before heading back down to the base area via the lift. Additionally, the resort’s Adventures Program offers archery lessons for children ages 7 and up.

Summer Lift Rides
Looking to enjoy the scenery? Catch a lift and enjoy a relaxing ride up to the top of the mountain with kids. Rides are offered daily on the Red Lady Express and the Silver Queen Express from June through September. Tickets for summer lift rides start from $20 for adults and $17 for children ages 7 to 17.

Family Summit Guided Hikes
Explore all that the mountain has to offer with a guided hike this summer. Children will learn about the environment and the animals that call Crested Butte home. Family Summit Guided Hikes are available for $180 per family of five.

Horseback Riding
Sign up for a full- or half-day horseback ride through the mountains and valleys of Crested Butte, Colorado. Rates start from $65 per person and reservations are required.

Rafting Adventures
Strap on a life jacket and raft down the Taylor and Gunnison Rivers with the family this summer. Full- and half-day rafting tours are available, starting from $45 per person.

Zip Line Tours
Head to the tree tops for a zip line tour of Crested Butte. Families will enjoy five zip lines ranging from 120 to 400 feet in length. The tour takes approximately two hours. Rates start from $64 per person.

Bonus: Families can purchase a rafting and zip line combination ticket for just $104 per person, to experience both adventures on the same day.

Crested Butte Mountain Resort also offers mini-golf, rock climbing and bungee trampolines in its Adventure Park, as well as fishing, hiking, biking, jeep tours and more. On Wednesdays throughout the summer, a free concert series is offered, too.
