It’s hard not to feel lost in the tropics at the Tortuga Bay Hotel PuntaCana Resort & Club. Palm trees sprout from the tops of the beach villas, and nature trails snake through the thick junglelike interior to 11 spring-fed ponds and three miles of beaches. There’s also a P.D. Dye-designed golf course, where six of the 18 holes face the ocean.

We recently spent 3 fabulous days at Tortuga Bay.
I can’t start without giving a big shoutout to Brainham, who went over and above his duties to accommodate every need we had during our stay.
I need to thank all the team for making our stay as comfortable as could be, since I was checking in with a painful sprain on my ankle that made my walking very painful.
We did have a reservation for a junior suite, located at the second floor of the villas, and considering the stairs to access it, our villa manager made possible to arrange our stay at a double room gorgeous villa, with direct access to the beach. Not only we were upgraded, and our previous rate was honored, we also got a villa steps away from the bar, pool and restaurant, so I could minimize my walking.
The villas are dreamy and so well appointed, decorated originally by the man himself, Mr. Oscar de la Renta.
No photos from the website can give really justice to the beauty of the area itself, it’s one of those places that you have to be there to appreciate the atmosphere.
The service was outstanding; each and everyone that I met was so nice and helpful, from the beach personnel to the bar and restaurant waiters.
We also enjoyed driving around in our personal golf cart, that we even drove twice to La Yola restaurant for dinner. What a pleasure to feel the nice breeze on our faces!
We hardly left the area, actually cancelled a couple of dinner reservations twice, to stay and enjoy the excellent dining at Bamboo Restaurant.
Tortuga Bay also has a vip treatment for their guests at the airport, so after driving us there, a charming lady received us and helped us and rushed us throughout security and checking in.
Unfortunately we entered the island with a reservation at Westin (four days before), and got none of this aid, that had us doing two hours of lineup for customs only! Fortunately my accident occurred at day two of our stay, so it wasn’t a problem other than standing the heat and humidity.
We definitely think we will return again in the future, thanks Tortuga Bay team for an extraordinary experience!
P.S.: Forgot to comment on the sargassum problem. The Punta Cana Resort area ecologically controls very well the problem. They have floating barriers, that stop the sargassum from getting to the coast, a more natural way to collect it and prevent decomposing when it reaches the beach. They also run several times during the day, a truck to sweep whatever reaches the sand.
Your pampering begins when you are literally met by a person from the hotel as you get off the plane at the airport. You are ushered through customs and taken to baggage claim. The hotel then drives you to the resort where you are met by a concierge who is assigned to you and anxious to organize any and all dining or activities that may be of interest to you. There are not that many villas, so they can really provide personal service. Lorraine Salvador was our concierge, and she made our stay at Tortuga Bay memorable. The rooms are spacious, there are numerous quality dining choices, the beach is lovely, the pool has ample lounge chairs, each villa provides you with your own golf cart and bicycles and the service is outstanding. If you are looking for a romantic getaway, this is it. If you yearn for a relaxing vacation with the opportunity to be pampered, this place is it. You don't even think about leaving the property because you are content.
