This lodge has a welcoming “come as strangers, leave as friends” vibe, and welcomes couples, families, friends, and even pets to their rooms, suites, and cottages. Families, your best options: Lizzie’s Cottage, a standalone building with a king bed and futon sleeper, fully stocked kitchen, and private patio shaded by a redwood tree; Victoria’s Flower Garden Suite, a five-room suite that sleeps six people and includes a solarium overlooking the gardens; or the Sunshine Suite, a two-bedroom unit that also sleeps six and has a funky, colorful, perfect-for-families setup (and obviously plenty of natural light!).
When the family gets hungry, no need to leave the premises: sit down for a three-course breakfast at the Garden Cafe — which, amazingly, is included in the room rates (except for the Sunshine Suite). Note that they are known for their gourmet food, so it might be different than you’re used to, but you’re perfectly welcome to request a more traditional breakfast. Either way, they’ll even bring the food right to your door so you can eat in your dining nook. Or, if you just want something light and quick, either request a to-go breakfast or grab a pastry from the stocked continental fixings available in your kitchen.
For dinner, head several blocks down to their associated Coho restaurant, which serves Pacific-Northwest-meets-Mediterranean meals. Lunch is the only time of day you’re on your own — though even then, concierge services will be happy to recommend a restaurant and even make your reservations (and the same goes for activities).

We booked at Tucker Guest house for a overnight stay in an all-too-brief visit to the beautiful San Juan’s.
From the moment we booked we were impressed with the high quality service we received, however we were particularly grateful with the flexibility that Patrick and the Tucker team displayed when we learned our morning sea plane flight from Seattle was cancelled due to weather. As a result of the cancellation we had to catch the ferry over from Anacortes and arrived a few hours later than originally planned, but still wanted to make time for a sea kayak tour before our dinner reservation. To help us make up time Patrick arranged for packed lunches from CoHo restaurant and had these waiting for us in our room, so that we could dump our bags, grab our lunches and go! The lunches were fantastic, and we made up a good amount of time as well.
The accommodations where well appointed and very comfortable. The beds were great and we all had an excellent sleep, waking up hungry for the delicious Tucker breakfast. The breakfast food was divine ( the best home-made granola we’ve ever had, walnut and maple French toast, bacon and cantaloupe with smoked salt. Delicious!). After an excellent sleep and a tasty meal we were all energized for another day out exploring the beautiful island and surrounds.
Thanks Patrick for making our stay at Friday Harbor particularly memorable!

We just finished staying at Tucker House for five nights for our 40th anniversary, and it was a joy to be there from the afternoon cookies to the impromptu concert of blues guitar that our innkeeper Patrick provided one evening. Friday Harbor is a delightful town, and San Juan Island is wonderful to explore. The breakfasts are fabulous -- I actually had to ask for smaller orders because they are so delicious I knew I would finish every bite if I had a larger serving. The fellow guests were so interesting that I wished I could invite everyone to come and visit us in Portland. We took the ferry one day to Orcas Island, and rented a car there arranged by Tucker House. It's true that a car would have been great to have on San Juan Island, too, but we actually got to see a lot via the Jolly Trolley. And we actually did see whales and Stellar Sealions on our whale-watching tour. If we go again, and I hope we will, then I would like to kayak and rent an e-bike. Go to Friday Harbor prepared to relax and enjoy.
