W stands for Why would I stay here?

by BosoxKen

We recently stayed here for two nights and while the front desk staff was excellent/helpful, the hotel fell far below standards for people of my vintage. The vibe skews decidedly young (pounding noise/music) and we have been on cruises with bigger rooms including a larger bathroom and no, I do not get the largest suites on the ship. The TV was mounted on the right side of the bed so one had to constantly turn your head to the right to see it. We went outside to their restaurant and waited despite the fact that were numerous tables open. When they finally got around to us, we were offered seats that reclined at an angle that my older body wasn't meant to sit in and then offered high tops seats (which were great) but we were told they didn't come with service and that we;'d have to go inside to the bar to order so we decided to leave. In addition, I had to call to get the room serviced and was told that they were short staffed. For $300+ a night, that's simply not acceptable. That said, I still tipped/left the housekeeper my customary amount. While younger folks may not take issue with these faults, seasoned travelers expect some service and for the price, a better room/better service. And oh, btw, I am a Marriott Bonvoy member, not one of the higher levels but nevertheless, a member who won't be staying at a W again but will try other members of the brand.

Best Hotel in DC

We had the most amazing trip and I wouldn’t stay anywhere but the W. You can’t beat the location, we walked out into the heart of DC and I was able to walk to the attractions. The staff at the W made the trip so memorable, one of the managers, Ximena, took such good care of us. The food was so good we ended up coming back to eat almost every meal either at the rooftop restaurant or the lobby. You must try to fruit smoothies in the morning. We made friends with Finda who serviced our room and most the servers knew us by the time we checked out. I even have the best picture from the lobby photo both. I can’t wait to come back and stay at the W again. Thank you so much for a memorable trip!
