You don’t need to travel far to get away from it all, especially with a three-day weekend fast approaching. Family resorts are destinations of their own, offering a place for the family to kick back and have fun together without ever having to leave the resort. And in January, the resorts are offering post-holiday steals to lure you to their comfy beds. Check out these great weekend rates at six popular family resorts:

Omni Mount Washington, New Hampshire

Located in Bretton Woods in New Hampshire’s famed White Mountains, the Omni Mount Washington is just a stone’s throw from family ski resorts. Then again, the resort provides families with plenty of fun to fill the days, including dog sledding, sleigh rides, tubing, snowmobiling, cross country skiing and snow shoeing. Try the “Stay Here Ski Here” package from $99 per person where two ski lift tickets for Bretton Woods are included with accommodations. Or lock yourselves away at the resort with the “Retreat & Relax” package, where weekend rates are 15 percent off for deluxe room accommodations.

The Homestead, Virginia

Book reservation for the Homestead January 4 through 7 and you’ll celebrate the resort’s 245th birthday by receiving a second night for just $24.50. The sale lasts only 72 hours but is valid for travel through December 23, 2011. Visit for a winter weekend at the Hot Springs resort and enjoy ice skating, skiing, tubing and snowmobiling. The 483-room resort rests on 3,000 acres in the Allegheny Mountains, world’s away from daily life at home.

Nemacolin, Pennsylvania

Nemcaolin’s 2,000-acre resort in southwestern Pennsylvania has long been a family retreat and now you can enjoy winter discounts that make visiting even more worthwhile. Select the “Kids Eat, Sleep & Ski Free” package and you’ll stay in the Autumn area of the resort, receive breakfast and ski lift tickets free for each child, each day of your visit. The “Family Escape” package provides two-night accommodations, $400 amenity credit and daily resort fee. Once at the resort on any package, your family can enjoy the Adventure Center, Kidz Klub, Equestrian Center and more.

Grand Geneva Resort, Wisconsin

Within an easy drive from Chicago and Milwaukee, the Grand Geneva Resort will keep the kids happy with its 50,000-square-foot Moose Mountain Falls Waterpark. The all-season resort features heated waterslides, a lazy river and indoor activity pools in a tropical setting, not to mention the cinema, activity center and game arcade. Winter packages include the “Grand Bed & Breakfast” package, starting at $159 for one night accommodations in a deluxe guestroom and breakfast for two in the Grand Cafe. Family and ski packages are also available that include water park passes and lift tickets.

Mohonk Mountain House, New York

Head for the hills of New York state for Mohonk’s President’s Special in February for the “Kids Stay and Eat Free” package. Family-oriented programs like snow tubing, cross country skiing, ice skating and snowshoeing will be offered on the 2,000-acre resort. The “Children’s Holiday Special” includes complimentary resort activities, three daily meals and afternoon tea and cookies, and kids stay free. If you can escape midweek, the resort offers a “Midweek Winter Getaway” starting at $165 per person, including breakfast, dinner and resort activities.

Four Seasons, California

Santa Barbara, positioned between Los Angeles and San Francisco, provides a quieter retreat for the family, and of course, the Four Seasons will pamper your family with its rooms, restaurants and amenities. Looking for a three-day weekend? Stay two nights and get a “Third Night Free” bringing standard room rates down to $317 per night. Purchase your stay in advance, and rates start at $355.
